Refinity is Innventure's fourth company, established to commercialize cost-effective waste-to-value technologies. The company licenses novel, high yield thermochemical processes to convert mixed waste, including hard-to-recycle plastic waste, to petrochemical feedstocks. The sustainable chemicals produced are designed to serve as direct replacements for existing fossil fuel-based feedstocks.

Technical Aspects:

  • Licenses thermochemical processes for waste conversion
  • Example technology includes gasification to convert mixed plastic waste to light olefins
  • Additional technologies may be contributed through Dow collaboration
  • Designed for mixed waste conversion
  • Focus on petrochemical feedstock production

Collaboration Framework

‍Refinity works with Dow as a key collaborator. The collaboration structure includes:

  • Technical resources from Dow to support engineering development
  • Support for deployment of new waste-to-value processes
  • Site identification for future commercial plant operations
  • Development of selected parts of the waste supply chain
  • Waste plastic feedstock aggregation and upgrading
  • Integration with Dow's Transform the Waste initiative

Market Context

The waste-to-value sector addresses the need for sustainable alternatives to conventional petrochemical feedstocks. This aligns with broader industry initiatives in circular solutions and waste transformation. The collaboration with Dow connects to their sustainability target to Transform the Waste and commercialize three million metric tons of circular and renewable solutions by 2030.
